One Warm Afternoon
I’m in a love affair with the wind these days
It started with a soft and subtle breeze
Brushing over my skin on a warm afternoon.
The sweet relief to the buildup of heat had been more than welcome
And so perfectly timed
That a part of me wondered
if there was some sort of intelligence behind the moment-
A thought released as quickly as it appeared to me.
Now,
when her playful puffs whisk through
The curls in my hair
Tickling my scalp
I no longer question whether this was meant for me
And give myself fully to her caresses.
I close my eyes and embrace this gift that’s mine
Opening to the sensations as they run over and through me.
Their impressions compounding as they traipse and tumble their way
along my unfurling receptors,
Playing off each other
Like well known band mates do.
I know that she is listening when she sings to me through the nearby wind chimes
As if to emphasize a thought that’s crossed my mind.
And contribute her notes of agreement, applause, and sometimes dissonance
Revealing a fascinating willingness to engage,
Ever inviting me to meet new facets of our conversation.
She dares me to color outside the lines
Not worry so much about making a mess of things
Feeling into the pleasure disruption can bring
And treats me to the wonder of impermanence
Of the delight in meeting a moment so openly
while fully aware of its fleeting nature
Of the lightness of letting go
Leaving space to meet and dance again
